We've gotten used to pictures of the "regular" i8 now, but don't think it has ever looked better than this. The BMW Individual Frozen Grey Metallic paint of the Concours d'Elegance Edition is drop-dead gorgeous, and coupled with the i8's revolutionary styling, absolutely looks the future-ready part.
Inside the cabin, the one-off i8 gets Dalbergia Brown leather upholstery, which is tanned using plant extracts. The Pure Impulse Tera World interior gets i Blue trim accents as well, and the unlikely combination of blue, brown and grey looks fantastic in a way that only German design can achieve.
The special-edition BMW also gets the words "Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Edition" laser etched on to the door sills and a plaque with signatures of key BMW executives involved with the development of the i8. Also unique is the innovative display key which features an integrated LCD touch screen.
The i8 the first car in the world to get laser headlights as an option, that generate a pure white light that doesn't hurt the eye, and works by converting the beams from the laser diodes using a fluorescent phosphorus material inside the headlights. These lights, if approved by the US government, can be retrofitted to the car post delivery.
The i8 Concours d'Elegance Edition will retain the same impressive plug-in hybrid specifications including the four-wheel drive powertrain that uses an electric motor to drive the front wheels, and a BMW TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder petrol engine to drive the rear two. The impressive performance figures remain too, with the car being able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and attain a top speed of 250 km/h.
Good news is that we're getting the production i8 in India at the end of the year - no doubt it will be one of the most eagerly anticipated car launches of the recent past.
