BMW To Get Ads In Its Cars

Very few places remain where ads cant get to us and cars were among those plces. However,BMW is on a project called 'Virtual marketplace of the future'. Pairing up with software creators SAP, BMW plans to match its location based information with the individuals needs.

Dr Jorg Preibinger, Project Manager at BMW Group Research and Technology explains,"In our vision for a virtual marketplace of the future, the vehicle will provide customers with context-adaptive, preference-based and timely offers and information relevant to their route."

This means, future BMW cars will have ads according to the user and the route chosen.

To achieve the goal, SAP will develop a cloud based virtual marketplace solution. BMW on the other hand will create a prototype in car software, to shuttle information and services from the marketplace to customers.

An application in BMW 7-Series permits drivers to choose their personal preferences for individualistic services and offers. BMW statement explains "At the same time, real-time vehicle data is used to predict drivers' needs during the course of the journey."

The vehicle for example while approaching a destination will send parking information to the backend system. Which will send a request for real time parking information. Availability and fees will be included, from the SAP platform. The system will displays all options available.

BMW explains, in the future its nav-system will provide details regarding coffee deals at filling stations, best parking options or real time offers at sports shop enroute. However, the German carmaker states the system will provide information 'only if the driver wants'.
