VW Hatchback Gets Road Sign Recognition System

Do you consider following road signs a pain in the neck? In India it is often the case as we find ourselves more engaged in negotiating through congested roads, which makes keeping an eye out for road signs particularly difficult.

European drivers do not face the same problems as drivers from the subcontinent, but missing a road sign seems to be a common problem throughout the world. Now though, anyone driving the new VW Golf hatchback will find it difficult to provide excuses if they overspeed as VW has equipped all new Golf hatchbacks with road sign recognition systems.

At the back of rear view mirror in every new VW Golf will be a camera that will scan the road in front and recognize various road signs. The system will promptly alert the driver about the same. For example, in case you are driving over the speed limit allowed in a section of road, the system will warn you to slow down and tell you what the right speed is. Among its other functions is the ability to sense weather conditions. In case it starts to rain the system will once again advise you about the appropriate speed you should be traveling at.

Volkswagen's Road Sign Recognition or Traffic Sign Recognition system is currently available only in Golf hatchbacks. But would you welcome the Traffic Sign Recognition system if it were introduced in India? Do you think it is suitable for India? You can watch the demo video below.
