Twizy Renault Sport F1 Leaves Our Mind Boggled
Did you ever have the crazy idea of adding Formula 1 technology to your small electric city car? No? Its pretty straightforward in theory. Take a light weight mini car, fit on oversized body kit and tyres, tweak the powertrain and you have a mean machine that will put a regular sports car to shame.
Well, the guys at Renault did get this idea and the result is this awesome looking Twizy Renault Sport F1 that is as powerful as a Renault Mégane RS 265 hot hatch. Take a look in the gallery below.
A brief introduction to a regular Twizy. It is a mini electric city car with a power output of just 13 kW or 17 HP. It is capable of a top speed of 85 km/h.
The Twizy Renault Sport F1 is the work of Renaultsport and their counterparts from Renault Sport F1.
This Twizy on steroids is capable of a maximum power output of 72 kW or 97HP. Top speed is 110 km/h.
The additional 80 HP is the result of some clever engineering and sheer madness. In short - KERS.
That's right. Just like a F1 race car, the Twizy Renault Sport F1 is equipped with a Kinetic Energy Recovery System similar to the one found in a Renault Formula 1 race car. This gives the Twizy an instant power boost.
The power boost, the additional 80 HP, lasts for 14 seconds. This enables the Twizy to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 6 seconds. This is the same as the Renault Mégane RS 265.
Its not all about power. The Twizy Renault Sport F1 will even handle like a sports car, which now has slick tyres from the Formula Renault 2.0 race car.
There is even the Formula 1 style steering wheel similar to the one used by Formula Renault 3.5 race car.
Other F1 race car like features include F1 type mirrors, LED safety lights, front and rear spoilers and side skirts.
No, Renault is not going to make a habit of manufacturing a fleet of these cars. So we'll have to be content with just this one example.
