Toyota Recalls 1.3M Corollas With Faulty Airbags

This is the first major recall from Toyota this year. Toyota was plagued by several recalls in the past three years, particularly in the US, which is its biggest market. The recalled Corolla is said to have faulty airbags that deploy automatically leading to injuries. Although no major cases of injuries have been reported, Toyota has said it had found 18 cases where occupants of the Corolla were mildly injured.
Reports say two accidents had also occurred outside Japan resulting from the airbags deploying inadvertently. Toyota has stated that it has already conducted investigations and has found that the airbags deploy due to a malfunctioning IC chip. Toyota has said it would be fitting an electrical signal filter in the airbag control system. Toyota's technicians will make the necessary changes in about 90 minutes.
Toyota has stated that it will be recalling 385,000 units of the Lexus IS in the united states. The reason for this recall is a faulty wiper arm nut on the front wiper. The nut is not tight enough and will lead to the wiper not working satisfactorily during extreme weather conditions.
Toyota is the world's largest carmaker in volumes and recalls have had a severe impact on its image in recent years. Safety concerns about its brakes and other components lead to a drop in Toyota's sales in the US.
