Toyota Recalls 1,000 Corola Altis Diesel Models

corolla recall
After Nissan its now another Japanese car maker which has issued a recall in India this month. Toyota has recalled some 1,000 diesel engined Altis sedans due to a suspected problem with the driveshaft. This is the second recall from Toyota this year, which had, in April, recalled Corolla sedans over airbag issues.

The problem this time was noticed in some cars due to aberrations on the sides of the driveshaft. Toyota says the problem has been observed in a few units manufactured between August 3, 2012, and February 14, 2013. These units will be inspected and driveshaft will be replaced for free. The process will take 2 hours.

This is the third time the Corolla Altis sedan has developed problems in less than an year. Last October Toyota had recalled 8,700 Corolla Altis and Camry sedan units over a faulty power window master switch which had the potential to cause fire.

While vehicle recalls in western countries are common they are fast becoming a norm in India as well, where it was unheard of just a few years back. Increasing customer awareness and improved safety standards can be seen as the reason behind it.
