Tata Nano CNG emax Launched; Price, Mileage, Variants & Features
The compressed natural gas (CNG) variant for the Tata Nano, CNG emax has been launched. The car was first showcased earlier this year during the Tata Horizonext event. As expected, the CNG variant of the Nano has claimed the title of most fuel efficient internal combustion engine powered car in India.
Car manufacturers in India do not usually advertise emission figures. Tata on the other hand, is. The Nano CNG emax is the cleanest car in the country, with an emission figure that's beats CNG & LPG aided petrol cars from other manufacturers. More details in the gallery below.
Tata Nano CNG emax is being offered in two variants - CX and LX. These are priced at INR 2.52 lakhs and INR 2.77 lakhs respectively. (Both prices are ex-showroom, Mumbai).
Tata claims a CO2 emission figure of 75.6 g/km, which is the lowest among petrol cars, beating other bi-fuel cars from Maruti Suzuki.
The number that will most appeal to car buyers will be the mileage figure, which is the lowest for any IC engined car - 36 km/kg of fuel.
The petrol engine powering the Nano remains the same, but with an added CNG kit. The CNG fuel tank sits underneath the driver seat.
The Nano has a 15 liters petrol tank and a 35 liter tank that holds CNG. Range offered thus is 150km on CNG and 375 km range on petrol.
The petrol engine is good for 38 PS power and 51 Nm of torque, while the CNG kit delivers 33 PS power and 45 Nm torque.
The driver can switch from CNG to petrol on the fly at the press of a button. The system will also do the switch automatically if it senses more power is required. The Nano can also be started on CNG power.
As a safety measure, the system will shut down if it senses a CNG leak.
All said and done, in the end Tata Nano CNG emax will only be available in selected states where CNG fuel is available. These include Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Lucknow.
