Tata Motors ‘Falcon’ Hatchback And Sedan To Debut At Auto Expo 2014
‘Project Falcon' is the codename being used by Tata Motors to designate its project that will bring the first totally new vehicle from the Indian manufacturer in years. The first two products originating from Project falcon will be a hatchback and a compact sedan, both of which will be on display at the Indian Auto Expo in Feb. 2014.
The new vehicle, Autocar India says, will look like nothing Tata Motors has on offer currently, despite making use of the X1 platform. That's the same platform on which the Vista and Manza are built. In fact, the two new vehicle will be replacements for the Vista and Manza. However, the existing model names will not be used to highlight their new genes.
Falcon 4
This is the codename for the upcoming hatchback. According to the report, the Falcon hatchback or the Vista replacement will be powered by the same 1.3 liter Fiat sourced Multijet engine. In addition, it will also get a new 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine based on the Xeta.
The Falcon 4 hatchback has been styled in Tata's European design studio. This means we can expect the vehicle to follow the design cues of modern European small cars, which will be a much needed welcome break from the existing aging and dull Tata design theme.
Falcon 5
This is the codename being used for the compact sedan that will take the place of the Manza. Once again, the Falcon 5 will be powered by the Fiat 1.3 diesel engine that powers the Manza. But a more powerful version of the new 1.2 liter turbo engine will also appear in the Manza replacement.
The engines that will appear in the Falcon 4 and Falcon 5 will be the base variants of a new line of more advanced (direct fuel injection) and larger engines being developed by Tata Motors which will appear in subsequent models.
Falcon 5 will be the first to launch of the two, hitting the roads before the 2014 festive season. The Falcon 4 will follow soon after, before the end of the year.
