SSC Tuatara Capable Of 1700 HP Nears Production
We last heard about the SSC Tuatara nearly two years ago when ShelbySuperCars revealed the Tuatara design concept for the first time. The Tuatara's claim to fame is SSC's claim that it will be the car that will get the Guinness title for the world's fastest production car, back to North American soil by beating the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.
Since then there has been no news about the Tuatara, but out of the blue SSC has now comeback, with some exciting news about the Tuatara. In its press release SSC states the engine has entered "final phases" of development. A dyno test conducted by the team has revealed a power output of 1,350 HP and 1280 lb-ft (1,733 Nm) of torque, while using standard "premium" 91 octane fuel.
The Tutara's engine is a 6.9 liter twin turbocharged V8 engine. According to SSC, the engine is capable of much more and says "it is easily capable of over 1700 HP for those owners that don't want or need to be buffered by regulations"
"This is a proud moment for all that were part of the engineering team on this project. This amazingly versatile package has already shown that it can easily be driven on a daily basis in any climate or environment in the world and at the same time can roll out of the pit area onto a track like Nurburgring and easily handle any rigors that record will require. Versatile, efficient, docile, savage...Engineering success!" says SSC founder and lead designer Jerod Shelby.
