July 16, 2013, Bangalore: Ssangyong Motor, part of the USD 16.2 billion Mahindra Group, announced that it has sold a total of 12,858 vehicles in June 2013 - 5,608 vehicles in Korea and 7,250 in exports, including CKD kits. Its sales uptrend continued for the fourth straight month since February this year.
This strong performance was driven by the launch of the Korando Turismo, with the company's monthly sales exceeding 12,000 units for three months in a row, increasing by 28.1% year-on-year. Its cumulative sales from January 2013 also rose by 22.6% compared to the same period last year.
This growth is backed by an upswing in Korea sales. The Korando brand family including the Korando Turismo has led this sales momentum.
Commenting on the performance, Dr. Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive and Farm Equipment Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, "Ssangyong's deep insight into evolving consumer trends in Korea is helping it to drive volumes in its home market. The creation of the Korando sub-brand is another key success factor for the company that is attracting younger buyers who have an active lifestyle."
Ssangyong's exports in June also grew by 20.7% year-on-year and its cumulative sales rose by 15.4% compared to the same period last year, thanks to increased shipments to Russia and Central & Southern American markets such as Chile.
In particular, the company exported a total of 18,858 units to Russia in the first half of 2013, accounting for 46.9% of overall exports, which means the Russian market is the largest export market for Ssangyong.
