Skoda Octavia RS Revealed
Skoda has revealed the all new Octavia RS, what it calls the fastest production Octavia ever. Skoda will unveil the new Octavia RS at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 10, after which the sporty sedan will hit dealerships across Europe, starting with UK.
"The new ŠKODA Octavia RS is a in sports league of its own," says Skoda CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. "Our latest model stands for horsepower and fuel efficiency and, at the same time, for emotion and rationality. Never before has an Octavia RS been so fast and dynamic and yet so spacious, convenient, safe and comfortable as the third generation of our compact sports car. In this perfect combination, the new Octavia RS and Octavia Combi RS set new standards in the sporty compact class and also takes the brand's sporty genes with it on the road. A perfect car for free time and everyday use, maximum power, the latest technology and great value for money," explains Vahland.
Skoda Octavia RS gains two new engines - a 2.0 liter TSI petrol engine rated at 220 HP and a 2.0 liter TDI diesel engine, rated at 184 HP.
Transmission
Both engines will be provided with 6 speed manual and automatic transmissions
Performance
Equipped with manual gearbox and petrol engine, the Octavia RS can reach 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and attain a top speed of 248 km/h. The diesel engine on the other hand, can reach 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds and has a top speed of 232 km/h
Fuel efficiency
Skoda has not released fuel economy figures yet, but it says, despite the performance jump the new engines consume 19 percent less fuel. Also, Start/Stop function and Brake Energy Regeneration will come as standard.
Performance upgrades
The sporty new Octavia RS now gets sports suspensions as standard. The electronic XDS differential lock, (increases traction and reduces understeer) integrated into the ESC is also standard.
Dimensions
The new Octavia RS not only performances better, but also looks aggressive, due to its significantly lowered and slightly longer body. The new sedan is 12 mm lower, 88 mm longer and 45 mm wider, while the wheelbase has risen by 102mm.
External upgrades
Enhancing the new Octavia RS's sporty characteristics are the new RS style front bumper the two large, trapezoidal-shaped chrome exhaust tailpipes, black diffuser element, roof edge spoiler and LED brake lights.
New style changes
Also new is the distinctive honeycomb air intakes, fog lights and the new bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, which are now fitted as standard. Skoda will offer 17, 18 and 19 inch wheels, with the last being optional. 225/45 size tyres will go on the 17s and 225/45 size tyres on the 18 and 19 inch wheels.
Interior
Inside, the front door handles will come integrated with ambient lighting. Standard will be sports seats, leather wrapped sports steering wheel, a new instrument cluster, stainless steel pedals and sill plates.
India launch is expected to be later this year.
