Skoda Plans Larger SUV & Rapid Hatchback

Skoda Yeti has been a successful model world over, (not so much in India, owing to its premium pricing), mainly due to its multi-purpose design that offers good off roading capabilies and its compact, but spacious interior that fits in perfectly as an MPV. Never-the-less, Skoda feels a larger SUV will be welcomed by buyers. Details about the new SUV are limited, but it will likely be built on VW's MQB platform.
On the other hand, Skoda's plan to launch a new five door hatchback based on the Rapid sedan is more or less confirmed. The hatchback version of the popular Rapid sedan will debut at the Frankfurt auto in September this year and will likely take design cues from its VisionD concept.
Skoda is unlikely to launch the larger SUV in India considering the low volume sales of the Yeti. On the other hand, the Rapid based hatchback has the potential to do what the Fabia could not for the Czech automaker. If Skoda manages to price the Rapid hatchback competitively it will definitely add significant numbers to the automakers sales numbers here.
