Silverstone Classic Witnesses Record 1,208 Porsche
Porsche continues to celebrate 50 years of the iconic 911, which was first unveiled at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Stuttgart based automaker has already built a special edition 911 sports car to commemorate the original 911. It has also taken the two cars on tours across Europe, but Porsche was not done with celebrations just yet.
Last weekend, during the annual Silverstone Classic event at the British racetrack, Porsche threw the grandest party yet. A parade of Porsche sports cars. Not a dozen, not a 100, but an amazing 1,208 Porsche 911s descended onto the track all at once, which not only put a big smile on the faces of people present, but also, reportedly, set a new world record for the largest gathering of sports cars of a single brand.
The record is not official yet, but the last year, during the Silverstone Classic a record was set by 964 Ferraris. Record or not, this must have been an exhilarating experience for fans who got to witness a once in a lifetime spectacle.
The celebratory event was organised by the Porsche Club of Great Britain. With 1,208 911s on the track, people got to see several interesting and rare cars, such as a 911 GT1 wearing the Playstation livery from the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans. Several legends from the motorsports community also took part in the parade.
Below is a video recorded by a fan, with the YouTube handle "Shmee150", who was present during the parade. The video is almost half an hour long, but then when has anyone ever got to see more than a 1,000 Porsche 911s on a race track.
