Schaeffler's Suzuki Swift Concept For India
Schaeffler, a leading German based automobile component manufacturer has unveiled a concept car specially developed for India. The concept is called "The Efficient Future Mobility India vehicle" and is based on the Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback.
The concept car was unveiled in Pune, Maharashtra by Schaeffler in an event an event organized by the company. The event, named ‘Innovation Days' was organised for the first time in India, providing a platform for unveiling and sharing innovations.

The Schaeffler developed "Efficient Future Mobility India vehicle" is basically a very fuel efficient Swift, which according to the developers, will consume 10 percent less fuel than a regular Swift.
This significant improvement has been brought about by the use of an electronic clutch management system, which enabled the developers to incorporate engine start/stop functionality in the car. This is a relatively new feature that is provided as a standard feature by many manufacturers in their high-end automatic models and hybrid vehicles, but Schaeffler has managed to fit it in Swift's standard manual gearbox.
Start/stop function saves fuel by cutting off engine power when the car comes to a standstill, say, in a traffic signal and the engine comes back to life when acceleration pedal is applied.
Furthermore, the company has incorporated several other fuel saving techniques into the Swift such as dual variable camshaft timing, coated tappets, smart thermo management and shift detection.
"We are also developing new concepts and technologies for the two-wheeler and commercial vehicle segment. Our recent innovations include low-friction bearings and new range of clutches for motorcycles in India," said Dharmesh Arora, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Schaeffler India
"The Efficient Future Mobility India car is the result of Schaeffler's intensive research and development towards optimizing drive train performance according to peculiarities of driving conditions, patterns and behaviour as well as customer preferences in India. This car reflects Schaeffler's vision for the future of drive train in emerging markets," he added.
