Nissan-Renault Working On Micra/Pulse Based Compact Sedan
The revised excise duty introduced this year may have come as a curse to automakers in India, but they are proving to be a boon for car buyers. Lower tax for sub-4 meter cars has meant that car makers are being forced to offer new models, under a new segment.
The success of Swift DZire and Honda Amaze has reportedly tempted the Nissan-Renault alliance into developing a compact sedan. A sub-4 meter Micra and Pulse with an added boot. The Telegraph states, citing an unnamed source from the design department of one of the automakers, that sedan version of the hatchbacks are being developed, but concrete designs have not been finalized.

"We are in talks to come up with Micra and Pulse sedans but the plans are still undecided. It might take us two years to come up with the cars but if the company wants, it can be done earlier as well. It depends on the urgency of the alliance to break into the entry-level sedan segment," a senior engineer with the company has said.
A compact sedan for Nissan-Renault would work since the only models, at present, on offer after the hatchbacks are Scala and Sunny sedans. The compact sedan from the alliance is not expected to arrive until 2015 though.
