Porsche Macan Entry Level SUV Coming In November

Porsche will unveil the Macan SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November this year, Autoexpress has learned. The Macan will head to showrooms in spring of 2014, says the auto publication.

The entry level Porsche SUV has long been awaited and in the past we have come across several spyshots of the Macan. Autoexpress now claims it has exclusive images of the baby Porsche SUV. The Macan will be smaller than the Cayenne and will belong to the same segment as its Audi cousin, the Q5.

To be produced in Leipzig, Germany, the Macan will sport an all wheel drive configuration right from the start and will be built on VW Group's new MLB platform, like the Audi Q5. However, Porsche will make use of aluminium extensively in its construction that will result in a significant weight reduction of 130 kg over the Audi Q5.

Autoexpress sources have not informed it about engine details yet, but six cylinder mills are expected to appear in them initially, followed by four cylinders at a later stage. Since Porsche has clearly stated its intention to introduce hybrid models across its model range a hybrid Macan will definately be offered.
Similar to how the larger Porsche Cayenne is priced above the Audi Q7, the Macan will be slightly more expensive than Audi Q5. Porsche Macan is expected to be priced approximately £10,000 pounds lower than the Cayenne, which in India should translate to a starting price in the region of INR 40 to 45 lakhs.
