Porsche Heads Towards A Hybrid Future

Speaking during the Porsche Panamera Hybrid workshop, company spokesperson Daniel Semmer explained the future path for the sports car maker would be to go green, by introducing a hybrid version of every model it makes.
This announcement is consistent with the earlier announcement made by Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group, concerning the group's philosophy of reducing fuel consumption at everyday driving speeds. The company aims to achieve this by reducing the revolution per kilometer of engines in all future cars.
This works through the employment of both plug-in hybrid technology, intelligent start-stop and coasting functions and smart on-board computers, which will manage engine usage automatically by interacting with intelligent road maps of the future.
Porsche already offers several hybrid variants, including the Cayenne S SUV and Panamera S sedan. The technology used in these cars will get much better in the coming years, said Semmer. The power delivered by the electric motors will go up several fold and charge capacity will improve, as more efficient, energy-dense battery packs are developed.
A mascot for hybrid system will be the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercar. While Mclaren P1 uses hybrid system as well, the Porsche 918 has adopted the hybrid system much more extensively. The Porsche 918, is the proof that you can keep alive the joy of driving a car, while heading down a cleaner path.
