Pininfarina Sergio Concept Based On 458 Italia
Pininfarina is an Italian auto design house and coach builder, specialising in Ferrari based designs. A company that comes with a unique skill set and design philosophy, while still maintaining its distinctively Italian feel, the company was founded by Pininfarina Sergio, who passed away in July 2012.
In celebration of his memory the company has designed a concept car named after him. Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, the Pininfarina Sergio is placed next to Sergio's favourite Ferrari, the Dino Berlinetta Speciale.

Pininfarina Sergio Concept is a barchetta, which is a type of two seater, roofless car.

Sergio Concept has been built on a Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder chassis, also using the 458 Italia spyder's engine and transmission.

The concept car is powered by the 458 Italia Spyder's 4.5-liter V8 engine that produces 562 HP, and is coupled to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, driving the rear wheels.

The Sergio's front mirror less design reduces aerodynamics, which has been compensated for by a front bumper wing.

The designers say the concept has better torsional rigidity compared to the 458 Italia Spyder and at about 1280 kg it is also 150kg or 331 pounds lighter.

0 to 100km/h (62mph) is achieved in under 3.4 seconds according to the designers, while the top speed is claimed to be 320 km/h (199 mph).

"Its exclusivity and development on the basis of a production car, in fact, sets the Sergio in the tradition of the great Pininfarina custom-made cars specifically designed for "special" clients. It is therefore a real car that can easily be produced in limited series of a few units," says Pininfarina.

"My father would be proud of this concept car", said Chairman Paolo Pininfarina, "because it expresses the aesthetic values that always inspired him: the purity of the lines, the harmony of form, and balance. Furthermore, he would be happy with this latest concept on Ferrari base, a brand to which we are related bya history that has helped define the most beautiful cars of all time in an evolution that has lasted 60 years and shows no sign of ending."
