Bernie Ecclestone Considering Buying Nurburgring
With the weekend's German Grand prix just having completed at the Nurburgring's GP circuit, German daily, Die Welt, caught up with Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone. The inevitable question that had to come up was regarding the future of the famed German circuit, to which Ecclestone replied saying, "It's quite possible that I'll buy it (Nurburgring)".
The historic circuit is a mecca for auto enthusiasts and manufacturers from around the world. But its popularity failed to save it from going bankrupt last year, in July. Back in May this year, it was revealed that ‘The Ring' would be sold to private players for €130 million ($170 million). But no progress seems to have been made yet.
Bernie Ecclestone went on to say that he is thinking about it and would make the final decision in a few months. He also stated that by buying the circuit he could also safeguard the future of German Grand Prix. At present, Nurburgring and Hockenheim take turns to host the race in Germany. It is believed that to make it possible for the race to be held at Nurburgring last weekend, Ecclestone considerably lowered the sanctioning charges to ease the burden on the already cash strapped circuit.
In the end, whoever ends up buying the circuit, fans only hope the spirit of the circuit is upheld and not too much is changed.

The historic circuit is up for sale for a price of $170 million.
