Nissan Micra Nismo Could Be Headed To India
Nissan's Nismo racing and performance tuning arm recently worked their magic on the March (Micra in India) hatchback in Japan. Nismo version of the March, along with the Nissan Leaf Nismo and the Nissan Fairlady Z (370 Z) Nismo were revealed for Japanese customers. A similar Nismo tuned Micra is also confirmed for Europe.
But when it comes to India manufacturers are hesitant to launch highly tuned variants of their offerings, especially hatchbacks. Quite understandable, since the market here is quite a lot different than say, Europe or Japan or the U.S. A hot hatch such as the Micra Nismo would cost substantially more and the market for expensive hatchbacks are very limited. But it seems Nissan India is still pushing for an Indian version of the Micra Nismo, according to AutocarIndia. But a final decision will be made only after approval comes from the headquarters in Japan.
The hardcore March Nismo S, launched in Japan and the one which will also make it to European markets is fitted with a 1.5 liter petrol engine, instead of the 1.2 liter petrol. The engine is further tuned to deliver 114 HP and 156 Nm of torque.
The gearbox is a suitably tuned 5 speed manual instead of the XTRONIC CVT.
The wheels are 16 alloy units wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 205/45 R16 tires.
Other upgrades come in the form of a stiffer suspension system, upgraded sports exhaust system and larger brakes.
Then there are the visual upgrades that are part of any tuning. Front and rear bumpers, side skirts, red mirror caps and daytime running lights complete the exterior package.
Moving inside reveals a sporty cabin that has sport bucket seats, Alcantara steering wheel cover, a sporty new gear shift knob and pedals. The entire interior is done in piano black.
It is unlikely that a Micra Nismo S will be approved for India since it would mean introducing a new engine, which would take up the cost. A more likely choice for India would be the more down to earth, Micra Nismo (without the ‘S') that is powered by the same 1.2 liter petrol engine.
This model produces a modest 79 HP and the Indian variant will also lose many of the high end custom tuning upgrades and will most likely be limited to a visual upgrade.
