Nissan India To Cut Micra Price And Features

Nissan, the Japanese carmaker which started its India operations by launching the Micra hatchback in 2010 is looking at the same car to boost its sales volumes in 2013. Nissan India is reportedly planning to launch a low priced version of the Micra to take on competitors such as the Hyundai i10 and Honda Brio.

The new Nissan Micra's price will be reduced by removing some features, according to reports. The new Micra is expected to be launched in March 2013. The low cost Micra is already being road tested around Nissan India's plant near Chennai.

Some of the changes reported in the new Micra are a new tail lamp cluster, modified seats and interiors. The most notable changes are expected to be made in the interior. Nissan India is looking to reduce manufacturing costs but not at the cost of the exterior design.

The front seats will be redesigned to replace the adjustable front headrests with cheaper single piece design. Nissan India is also planning to remove several other feature in an effort to reduce costs. The Japanese carmaker is said to be planning to reduce the new Micra's price by Rs.70,000 according to reports.

The Nissan Micra's price for the base petrol variant is INR 4.23 lakhs while the base diesel variant is priced at INR 5.98 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). If reports about the new Nissan Micra's price are true, then the new Micra's price should be around INR 3.5 lakhs for the petrol variant and INR 5.3 lakhs for the diesel variant.

This cheaper Nissan Micra variant is expected to be named as the Micra Active.
