Nissan Micra Classic, Datsun Coming This Year
Looks like Honda is not the only car manufacturer with plans of entering the budget segment in India. Nissan India, it seems, also has a similar strategy chalked out. The Japanese automaker has now officially confirmed that it will launch a new base variant of the Micra called Classic.
The new entry level Nissan Micra, code named G02A, will cost about Rs. 50,000 less than the existing Micra base variant. Naturally, compromises will have to be made in the form of lower quality seat fabrics, one piece front seats, fixed headrests, fewer colour choices etc,. Micra Classic will also come with bare essential electronics such as power steering, manual air-con and central locking. The new Micra Classic launch should coincide with the launch of Micra facelift. Both the Micra Classic and the Micra facelift will be available with 1.5 liter diesel and 1.2 liter petrol engines.

Besides the Micra Classic Nissan has also confirmed the much awaited launch of the first model sporting the Datsun name. The Datsun model, codenamed K2 will appear by the end of this year and will feature a premium look, but still manage to be available with an attractive price tag. The Datsun model has been specifically developed for emerging markets and will offer class leading space and mileage. Besides India, the Datsun model will also go on sale in South East Asian markets and possibly even China.
Not much has been revealed about the upcoming Datsun's powertrain, but it will not come with the option of a diesel engine.
