The new Mini Cooper is slightly larger than the outgoing model. It's 98mm longer, with a 28mm longer wheelbase, 44mm wider and 7 mm taller. As a result it also gets a larger 211 liters boot, an increase of over 50 liters.

Design changes are not radical. Understandable, considering the designers have to handle the sensitive issue of retaining the classic Mini look while doing any sort of change.

The new Mini has a slightly larger, boxier front grille, redesigned hood, and redesigned headlights, with LED daytime running lights, that are still round like a traditional Mini's.

On the inside there are a lot of small changes such as repositioning of dials and buttons. For example, the power window controls have been shifted from the center of the vehicle to the door panels.

The new Mini makes good use of semi circular LED lights on its large circular center console. For instance, the LEDs change colour from blue to orange to red based on the driving mode - Mid, Sport and green. The LEDs, in conjunction with the sat-nav, also light up to indicate your proximity to a location.

Finally, they also help you park your vehicle by turning green, yellow or red, with the help of parking sensors.

The 2014 Mini models will be built on BMW's new front and all-wheel drive platform called UKL1, which will also be used to build other small, upcoming BMW vehicles.

The 2014 Mini Cooper comes with three engine options, a 1.5 liter 3 cylinder petrol, a 1.5 liter 3 cylinder diesel and a 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder petrol. All engines make use of Mini's TwinPower turbo technology and direct-injection.

The Mini Cooper, powered by the 1.5 liter petrol will deliver 134 HP and a peak torque of 219 Nm. 0-100 km/h is achieved in 7.9 seconds.

Mini Cooper D, powered by the 1.5 liter diesel puts out 114 HP and yet unknown. The Cooper D gets to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds.

The last model is the Cooper S. It's 2.0 liter petrol generates 189 HP and 280 Nm of torque, taking the vehicle to a 100km/h in 6.8 seconds.

The 2014 Mini Cooper engines will be paired up with three six speed transmissions - a manual, an automatic and a dual clutch sports automatic with shorter shift times.

The new Mini also gets a bevy of next generation of safety features such as head-up display, collision and pedestrian warning system, automatic braking system in the city, park assist etc,.

Production of 2014 Mini Cooper will commence in a couple of weeks time, with a launch scheduled for March 2014. In the UK, the starting prices will be as follows: Cooper - £15,300; Cooper D - £16,450; Cooper S - £18,650. Mini is likely to unveil the new Mini in India at the 2014 Auto Expo in Feb.
