Mercedes Unimog, A New Breed, Is Here

No, you'll probably never drive one of these. Not because its one of the more expensive vehicles, but because its a truck. You are also unlikely to see a truck driver driving this on an Indian highway. Then why are we talking about the Mercedes Unimog you ask? That's because it's perhaps the most wicked commercial truck in existence today and Mercedes has launched a new generation of Unimogs. 10 new models.

The new generation of Unimogs get two new ‘BlueEfficiency' engines for compliance with Euro VI emissions regulations. The new cabin, complete with a detachable joystick and multifunction steering wheel, looks complex enough to launch a nuclear strike. The Unimog engine lineup will be available in the four and six cylinder varieties, which will be available in varieties ranging from 156 HP through to 354 HP.

There is also something called "synergistic traveling drive," which Mercedes says, will allow the driver to shift from manual transmission to hydrostatic transmission while still driving. The Unimog can ford up to 1200 mm, climb steep hills at 45 degrees or tilt 38 degrees sideways and has an axle articulation of 30 degrees, allowing for sharp turns. There is a lot more we could tell you about the Unimog, but enjoying the Unimog in the gallery is a better way to appreciate it.
