Mercedes Benz GL Class SUV In India To Roll Out Next Week
When Mercedes Benz launched the GL Class SUV in India in May this year the first batch of vehicles that were sold were imported as Completely Built Units. It did, however, mention that in the coming months the luxury SUV would be locally assembled.
To be fair to early customers Mercedes offered the first batch of imported GL Class SUVs for the price of locally assembled models. AutoCarIndia reports that the first GL Class manufactured in India will start leaving the Chakan assembly plant in Pune on August 26th.
India will thus become the only other place in the world where GL Class SUVs are manufactured. The main facility where the GL Class is produced is located in Tuscaloosa, USA.

The GL Class, a large luxury SUV, can accommodate seven adults and the Mercedes 4MATIC system, along with the seven speed automatic transmission offer all-wheel drive capability. The SUV is powered by a 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine that outputs 258 HP at 3600 RPM and 619 Nm of torque from 1600 RPM. Despite its hulking size, the vehicle can still reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 8.9 seconds.
Mercedes Benz GL Class is priced at INR 77.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
