Mercedes-Benz New Driver Safety System

Mercedes-Benz
German premium carmaker Mercedes-Benz is known for developing innovative safety features. Now it is tackling the issue of ghost drivers who have caused several accidents and loss of lives in recent months in Germany.

If you were wondering who are ghost drivers, they are people who unintentionally drive in to the wrong way or in to on coming traffic. Several horrible accidents have occurred due to ghost drivers (Geisterfahrers in German) and Mercedes-Benz has devised a new system that will prevent such accidents.

The safety system consists of a camera in the windscreen that monitors no-entry signs and on coming traffic. If you drive in to the opposite lane or drive through a no entry sign, the system automatically issues three loud beeps alerting the driver. A no entry sign will also appear on the instrument cluster.

The safety system to prevent ghost riders is not exactly fool proof but it has the potential to save lives. You will be able to see the system in live action when it is fitted to the face-lifted E-Class and the 2014 S-Class saloon.
