Mercedes Benz B-Class Diesel Launch Price Rs 22.6L
Mercedes Benz has brought out the less expensive B-Class hatchback for the Indian market. The B-Class diesel, the B180 CDI as its called, is priced at INR 22.6 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The hatch was launched in an event graced by Bollywood actors Abhay Deol and Aditi Rao Hydari, along with Mercedes Benz India CEO Eberhard Kern.
Powering the B180 CDI is the same engine that powers the A180 CDI (the A-Class diesel). The 2.2 liter four cylinder unit puts out 109 HP and 25.5 kgm of torque. The engine is mated to the 7 speed dual clutch transmission that transfers power to the front wheels.
The diesel engine powering the Merc hatches in India is not the sportiest offered by the German company. In fact, it has been tuned down to suit Indian fuel quality, which means unlike its European counterpart, it is Euro IV compliant rather than Euro V.
Top speed is not something you would be most concerned about when driving this car, but it can go on till 190 km/h. More importantly, the 2.2 liter diesel engine can deliver a fuel efficiency of nearly 19 kmpl, according to Mercedes.
Merc B-Class is priced lower than its petrol variant that was launched last year. This because the B-Class diesel is only available in ‘Style' variant, which does not include the panoramic sunroof and the 17 inch alloys found in the petrol (replaced by 16 inch alloys instead). We'll update this post soon with launch images.
