Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG Goes 6X6
Mercedes-Benz recently launched the G63 AMG off-roader in India with much fan fare. The G-Class SUV, which costs INR 1.46 crores offers a refined package of ruggedness and luxury, but a new sibling of the G63 AMG has appeared in the global scene recently that will put the G63 AMG to shame.
This new Merc off-roader is called the the G63 AMG 6X6 and as the name suggests this vehicle is an all wheel drive that runs on 6 wheels. The G63 AMG 6X6 is not a new model, but is based on the military version of the G320 CDI, which is used by the Australian armed forces.

Naturally, its not just the extra wheels that sets the 6X6 apart from the regular G63. This SUV actually comes with an amazing five differential locks, which offer 100 percent lockup.

The 3.0 liter engine from the regular G63 has made way for a twin turbocharged 5.5 liter V8, producing 536 HP and 560 lb-ft of torque. Similarly, the 5 speed transmission has been replaced by a 7G-tronic seven speed automatic transmission.

In an interview with Autoweek, Axel Harries, who heads the Mercedes G-Class development section has revealed the performance figures for the G63 AMG 6X6.
0-100 km/h: less than 6 seconds
Top Speed: 160 km/h (electronically controlled)
Fuel Economy: 13 mph (5.5 kmpl)

The G63 AMG 6X6 weighs 3,775 kgs and has a ground clearance of 460mm.

This extra long G63 is in the format of a pick-up and measures 5,867mm long, 2,111mm wide and 2,209mm tall.

Harries also said that only 20 to 30 trucks will be built in a year and will be the second most expensive car sold by Mercedes-Benz, behind the $457,000 SLS Electric Drive.
