McLaren P1's Nurburgring Sub-Seven Minute Lap Video Is Simply Stunning
McLaren has released the official video of the P1 hybrid hypercar lapping the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and all we can say is it's an absolutely beautiful short film that perfectly summarizes the challenge of completing a lap of The Green Hell.
McLaren explains that of the several performance targets it had set for the P1, one was to get the hypercar to accelerate to 300 km/h from not in under 17 seconds (which the car does) and the other was to achieve a sub-seven minute time around Nurburgring.
To achieve this it's necessary to maintain an average speed of at least 178 km/h throughout the 20.8 km/h circuit. So, did Mclaren P1 complete a sub seven lap? "Yes, of course" the narrator says at the end of the video. But the million dollar question is not answered.
McLaren has refrained from mentioning the exact time the P1 took to lap the Nurburgring. So we do not yet know if McLaren managed to beat the current record holder, the Porsche 918 Spyder's time of 6.57 minutes. But we'll wait in the hope that McLaren will release the final time soon.
