McLaren To Get Rid Of Windscreen Wipers; Use Sound instead
Car windscreen wiper was invented in 1903 by a woman named Mary Anderson and since then it's been an indispensable part of every vehicle. No one has ever seriously thought of getting rid of it and nor has anyone come up with a novel way to perform a wiper's task by doing away with it. That is until now.

McLaren could become the first company to completely do away with windscreen wipers in their cars. And this is not a rumor but comes from McLaren's chief designer Frank Stephenson. Speaking to Sunday Times recently, Stephenson revealed that the automaker is developing a technology that will make wipers irrelevant.

The technology uses sound waves to repel almost anything from the surface of the windscreen. The technology has existed for quite sometime now, having been employed in fighter aircrafts.
The technology makes use of ultrasound in the 30 kHz range that repels anything from dust particles to insects to snow. Not only does this system improve visibility by keeping the screen clean, but the absence of a windscreen wiper also improves a car's aerodynamics.
While confirmation could not have come from a more reliable source, there is yet no information about when and which McLaren vehicle will feature the technology. But we can be sure of one thing. Once the technology is implemented it will not be long before the rest follow suit.
