Maruti Suzuki Swift Being Offered On Discount
Maruti Suzuki Swift, which has always been in demand ever since its launch in 2005, is now showing signs of declining sales. Hence, for the first time in its nearly 8 year long history the automaker is offering discounts on the hatchback.
ET quotes a Maruti Suzuki dealer as saying, "We are currently facing perhaps the toughest times in the past several years. The customer test-drives, rate of conversations of car bookings to retail sales all have declined in recent months." He added, "While waiting on all models has vanished, the lacklustre Budget has changed the swing even for models like Swift that have enjoyed huge waiting until last month."

The more important matter here is that poor sales run is not limited to Swift or even Maruti Suzuki, but has affected different models from other automakers in the country as well. The culprit being rising fuel prices and recent government policy updates. In fact, it is being said that auto sales are lower than even the December 2000 slump that had witnessed 40 percent decline in sales.
ET reports that dealers are offering cash corporate discounts of Rs 5,000 on Swift diesel variants, while others in Bangalore and Mumbai are offering cash discounts of up to Rs 10,000 on certain variants of Swift Dzire.
Perhaps the most obvious sign of low sales is that most models which earlier had healthy waiting periods are now available for immediate delivery.
Interestingly, when asked by ET about discounts being offered on the Swift, Maruti Suzuki denied any such offers exists for retail customers. "We have consistently ramped up production of Swift to meet customer demand," a spokesperson said.
