Maruti Suzuki To Start Making Commercial Vehicles
While Maruti Suzuki is a market leader in the compact passenger vehicle segment in India, it does not have a presence in the commercial vehicle segment, a void it wants to fill in soon. The automaker has confirmed that it will enter the Light Commercial Vehicle segment with the introduction of a brand new model.
The said vehicle will be based on the Carry, an LCV that shares its platform with the Maruti Suzuki Omni van. The new LCV will come out in diesel and CNG powered variants.
Maruti Suzuki's entry into the commercial vehicle scene is still a couple of years away because the company says its engineers will take two years to develop the new vehicle based on the Carry platform.

We have a hunch Maruti Suzuki plans to develop the new model to enter the quadricycle race. Bajaj, which is currently the only manufacturer with a production ready RE60 quadricycle, recently convinced the government to create the new segment to fit its new vehicle.
It is also learnt that other companies, including Piaggio, have sought for a temporary ban on the RE60 until the rest are ready to bring out their own quadricycle model and thus prevent Bajaj from establishing a monopoly. A compact LCV, based on the Suzuki Carry platform perfectly fits the bill for a new quadricycle design.
