Maruti Suzuki Begins 2013 With 2% Jump

Maruti Suzuki, the leading Indian carmaker, has posted a marginal 2% hike in Domestic sales for January 2013 after selling 103,206 units. Maruti Suzuki's exports during the same period fell by 22.3% to 11,179 units resulting in total sales for January 2013 falling by 0.2% when compared with January 2012 sales.

We shall now have a look at segment wise sales of Maruti Suzuki's cars in January.

Maruti Suzuki's mini car segment which includes the Maruti 800, Alto, A-Star and Wagon R saw a 10.7% dip in sales after 46,479 unit sales. The compact hatchback segment which includes the Swift Estilo and Ritz recorded 24,006 sales marking a 6.8% decline.

The Swift DZire continues its positive sales performance in January 2013 after achieving 17,060 sales which is a massive 97.5% increase over January 2012 sales. The SX4 mid-size sedan does not appear to have improved upon its sales performance in recent months. Maruti Suzuki managed to sell 1,012 units of the SX4, which is a 47.8% drop from previous January.

Maruti Suzuki is reaping the benefits of launching an affordable MPV in the form of Ertiga. It has sold 6,095 Utility vehicles among which the majority contribution is from the Ertiga.

Maruti Suzuki's vans have failed to impress buyers much in January 2013 with sales dropping by 32.7%. One car that is not in this list is the Kizashi premium sedan. Maruti Suzuki has stopped selling the Kizashi after monthly sales dipped to single digits.
