Maruti Suzuki To Stop Building Zen Estilo
Maruti Suzuki is India's leading carmaker for several reasons. One reason is it builds affordable small cars that deliver low cost of ownership and have great resale value. However, not all cars from Maruti Suzuki's stables are hot on the market. One such car is the Zen Estilo.
The Zen Estilo is said to be on its way out of the Indian car market, according to recent reports. In fact, reports claim Maruti Suzuki is planning to shelve the Zen Estilo as early as March 2013. Maruti Suzuki has several cars within the same segment as the Zen Estilo starting with the Maruti 800 to the A-Star.
The price difference between these cars are not very high. When demand for petrol cars started to decrease sharply and when petrol prices started shoot up, one of the fist cars to loose out was the Zen Estilo. People either preferred to buy a cheaper car such as the Alto or Wagon R or spent a little higher to buy an entry level diesel car. The A-Star which is priced just a few thousands above the Zen Estilo managed to survive as it is available with an automatic gearbox.

The demise of the Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo was written on the walls in 2012 itself. Maruti Suzuki had announced that it would reduce production of certain cars that had too much inventory. The first car in the list was the Zen Estilo, followed by the Wagon R and the A-Star. The Wagon R has bounced back well and the A-Star is bringing in sales thanks to its auto box. However, the Estilo does not have anything to boast about in terms of sales.
The Zen Estilo has not been able to cope with competitors such as the Hyundai i10, Honda Brio and Chevrolet Beat despite its modern design and price under INR 5 lakhs. Sources say the Zen Estilo could be followed by the A-Star too if sales do not improve.
