Maruti Suzuki December 2012 Sales Up 3%

Maruti Suzuki, the leading Indian carmaker has reported a 3% increase in December 2012 sales despite sales of its small cars dipping and a 12% decline in exports. Maruti Suzuki has posted a sales growth thanks to the positive performance of the Ertiga MPV. The company has sold 95,145 cars in the previous month as against the 92,161 cars it sold in December 2011.

Maruti Suzuki has sold 82,073 cars in India during December 2012 marking a 6% increase over sales during the same period last year. Exports at Maruti Suzuki, on the other hand declined vt 12 percent to 13,072 units.

Looking in to the segment wise break up of sales, The small car segment consisting of the Alto, Alto 800, Wagon R and the Maruti 800 fell by 15% to 32797 units. Sales of the compact hatchback segment which include the Zen Estilo, Swift and Ritz rose by 8.9% to 22,452 units. The Swift DZire compact sedan continued its growth story with a 42.3% increase in sales in December 2012.

The SX4 mid-size sedan continued its lacklustre performance in the market with a massive 61% drop in sales. Maruti Suzuki managed to sell just 329 units of the SX4 in December 2012. The Kizashi premium sedan imported from Japan garnered 45 sales.

Maruti Suzuki is making inroads in to the utility vehicle segment with the Ertiga MPV launched in April 2012. The company has sold 5,447 vehicles in the UV segment marking a 2188.7% increase. Such a huge increase is a result of the company selling just 238 vehicles in the segment in December 2012.
