Maruti Suzuki A-Star To Be Discontinued
Following the discontinuation of the Maruti Estilo the automaker is reportedly planning to stop production of another of its flop model, the A-Star.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star hatchback, which is sold as a separate model in India is the next gen-Alto in several other countries. The A-Star is also sold under contract by Nissan Europe as a the Pixo.
Sales of both the Estilo and A-Star in India have been dwindling for years now and it would seem the only reason the A-Star even hung on till now was due to exports. In the month of September 2013 Maruti manufactured 7,171 A-Star hatchbacks at its Manesar plant, 6,500 units of which were exported.

Speaking to sources at component supplier industry ET has learnt that Nissan Europe has stopped importing the A-Star/Pixo. With the end of export it no longer makes financial sense for Maruti to continue production of the car.
The A-Star's place will not be left empty though, which will be replaced by the hatchback codenamed ‘YL7'. The said new car, thought to be the next-gen Alto will not only replace the A-Star, but also the Estillo.
The YL7 has been designed to rectify some of the shortcomings of the A-Star. The cramped rear passenger area for instance. The YL7, which has been spotted testing in India and abroad, has a taller stance like the Estilo as well, which promises a spacious car.
Maruti's A-Star replacement or next-gen Alto will make its debut at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo that will be held in February.
