Mark Webber Bests Vettel In Top Gear; Says F1 Quality Dropping
Mark Webber announced his retirement from Formula 1 a few weeks back. Since that is out of his mind, the Australian now has no worries speaking his mind out about the motorsports in public. Be it his, not so mild, remarks about Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel or his concerns about the deteriorating quality of F1.
During his Top Gear UK appearance
On Top Gear UK's series 20 season finale, where Webber was the special guest, invited to drive the reasonably priced car, the F1 driver managed to bring his name up from the bottom of the F1 driver's ‘Lap Time' list up to second. In the process he beat his rival Vettel's time of 1:44 seconds by a full second.

Later, during the interview Webber said he wouldn't miss Vettel after his retirement from F1, to a question posed by host Jeremy Clarkson. When asked by Clarkson whether he ever feels like punching Vettel, Webber gave a cheeky reply. "My dad always says you shouldn't hit boys, mate," he said.

In an interview with Autosport
Webber has raised concerns about the deteriorating quality of Formula 1. Webber's concerns were targeted towards ‘pay drivers'. These are drivers who bring in a lot of sponsorship money with them. The already cash strapped teams are ever more reliant on drivers who can keep the cash flowing, than on talented drivers. A sad, but increasingly unavoidable state of affairs.
This is no doubt a worrying trend, a concern which has been raised before by several others. Webber said this meant several talented, but ‘poor' drivers were losing their chance to showcase their talent behind the wheels.
