Mahindra XUV500 New Base Variant Confirmed
At a time when the Indian auto industry is on a downward trend, automakers are employing different cost cutting strategies to encourage customers to buy new products. Mahindra, for example, launched the new compact car, Verito Vibe. The Vibe, being a sub-4 meter car, is priced competitively and is expected to improve Mahindra's share in the Indian passenger car segment.
While Mahindra is the market leader in the SUV segment, things are not going as smoothly as last year. Bolero and Scorpio have both been targeted by rival models such as Renault Duster and Maruti Ertiga. Things will get tougher still with the introduction of Ford EcoSport.
On the premium SUV front, however, Mahindra's XUV500 has been holding its own. High value for money, reliable engine options and an international design meant that the full sized SUV sold like hot cakes upon launch. Never-the-less, as the months have passed sales numbers have gone down significantly. To keep unit sales up Mahindra has now decided to expand the lineup with a new base model priced below the existing starting price of INR 12.13 lakhs.
"We constantly keep on getting customer feedback and taking that into account, we plan to launch a lower variant of XUV 500 by the end of the current fiscal," Mahindra & Mahindra Chief Executive Automotive Division Pravin Shah told PTI. We expect more details and scoop images of the base XUV500 to start appearing on the internet soon. Stay tuned.
