Mahindra Thar Upgrade Removes The Chink In The SUV’s Armour
Mahindra Thar, while a capable SUV and is favoured by enthusiasts, has had a few complaints. Most of these are concerning its poor quality interior. In a move that will be much appreciated by buyers, Mahindra has listened to all the feedback given by existing owners and has updated the Thar.
The 2014 model year Thar upgrade is not focused on the interior alone, but also incorporates a few notable functional changes. Following are the changes that are seen in the updated Thar.

Air-conditioner switches: Cheap switches in the center console have been replaced with those from the Bolero.
Inner door handles: Quality of the cheap handles, which had the tendency to break easily, have been improved.
Rear headroom: Headroom has been increased for the rear occupants by the way of lowering the seats by 6 mm.
Front canopy: The removable canopy can now be detached and reattached using screws. These are far less cumbersome than the previous system of pins.
Reinforced A, B pillars: The B-pillar in the Thar was flimsy, which resulted in it hitting the doors when the terrain got rough. The A and B pillars have now been reinforced to increase their rigidity.
Lastly, the auto locking hubs of the front axle has been replaced by fixed flanges. This permanently engages driveshaft.
The 105 HP, 250 Nm torque 2.5 liter CRDe turbo diesel engine, mated to the 5 speed manual gearbox have been retained. It is not clear whether the new model will come for a higher price, but it is unlikely.
