Mahindra Formula E Championship Entry In 2014 Made Official
Only about couple of months after the first report about Mahindra's interest in being a part of the inaugural 2014 Formula E Championship emerged, the Indian auto giant has officially signed a contract with Formula E Holdings.
Mahindra Racing has officially joined the all electric car motor racing championship as the eight team, out of the planned 10. Heading Mahindra Racing's Formula E team will be SP Shukla, Chairman Mahindra Racing and President Group Strategy.

The 2014 Formula E Championship will commence from September 20, 2014 in Beijing and will go on till June 2015, when the last race will take place in London. All Formula E races will be held in street circuits across the globe in places including Putrajaya, Hong Kong, Punta del Este, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Miami, Monte Carlo and Berlin.

The inaugural season will be essentially a one-make series (meaning all race cars will be mechanically and design wise, the same), with race car chassis coming from Dallara, battery and powertrain from Williams and Mclaren and Spark Racing and Renault taking care of vehicle body developement. This is only to aid the teams, almost all of which are new to electric car technology.
After the 2014 season all teams will be responsible for their own race cars and electric technology that will power them. Mahindra hopes to learn as much as possible in the first year, post which it will have to develop and race its own electric racers.
The ultimate goal of Formula E is to accelerate research & development in the field of electric vehicles. Mahindra's association with Formula E will help the manufacturer immensely in developing advanced electric cars, including next-gen batteries, motors and charging technology.
