Range Rover Evoque With Nine Speed Auto Gearbox
Land Rover's new Range Rover Evoque will sport ZF's nine speed automatic transmission, becoming the first production car model to feature this advanced transmission system. The new Evoque fitted with the ZF nine speed automatic system will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show.
ZF's nine speed automatic transmission follows the company's eight speed auto transmission, which was designed keeping in mind longitudinally mounted engines favoring rear wheel drive. However, the nine speed system have been developed to benefit transversely-mounted engines, meaning cars that have front wheel drive.
Land Rover has not revealed the exact gear ratio figures yet, but the new transmission weighs 7.5kg (16.5 pounds) less than existing six speed transmission used by the Evoque.
Land Rover says, the new transmission will improve fuel economy and thus bring down carbon emission. The gear system is also said to improve response, acceleration and provide a more refined driving experience. Furthermore, the new system will also be helpful during towing and while tackling steep terrain, providing the driver a "heightened sense of control"
ZF's nine speed auto system is also an intelligent transmission that learns the driver's driving technique and changes gears accordingly. The system will even skip gears during quick acceleration and deceleration.

"It will add another layer of performance, refinement and efficiency, further enhancing Land Rover's world class abilities."
