Lamborghini Gallardo Replacement At Frankfurt?
Considering the Gallardo first hit the streets almost a decade back it makes sense that Lamborghini has at hand a brand new replacement vehicle to take the aging Lambo's place. Rumors doing the round about an alleged replacement model have only gone up in recent months.
Autocar has given further credibility to these rumors by saying a Gallardo replacement is indeed headed our way at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Citing internal sources, the British publication says the Gallardo replacement will not be as radical a change as Lamborghini would have liked it to be.
This is because it has to comply with parent company Audi's strategy to make use of a common platform with its R8 supercar. The next gen Audi R8 is expected to be launched an year after the launch of the Gallardo replacement, but sporting an identical frame.
The next-gen frame being discussed here will not be common to the VW family, developed by Porsche, but one developed by Audi. The new space frame platform will be constructed from more than single type of material - likely a composite of carbon fiber, aluminium and even fiberglass. This mixture of materials is expected to allow for a construction that is almost as light and strong as a pure carbon fiber structure, yet at a significantly lower cost.
Though both the Gallardo replacement and the next-gen Audi R8 will use the same structure, the Gallardo will be slightly shorter, thus a few kilos lighter as well. Lamborghini could continue using the 5.2 liter V10, but one that is significantly modified to produce more power (600 HP) and lower emissions to comply with latest EU norms.
Lamborghini Gallardo replacement will likely incorporate design elements from the Sesto Elemento. As far as the name goes, the one doing the rounds is "Cabrera", which is naturally, the name of a line of Spanish bulls.
