Karun Chandhok Secures His Second Le Mans Term

Karun Chandhok, who became the first Indian to take part in Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race last year, has secured a place in the 2013 season, with Murphy Prototypes LMP2 team. Last season Chandhok had raced for French JRM Racing HPD P1 team and had finished in the sixth position.

Chandhok's teammates in his new team include his former Red Bull Junior Team colleague Brendon Hartley and US driver Mark Patterson. The former HRT Formula 1 driver will get to drive a ORECA-Nissan 03 prototype racer.

Chandhok, who is also made his FIA GT Series debut this year, will continue racing for the Seyffarth Mercedes team. At last week's FIA GT Series opening race held in Nogaro, France, Chandhok secured sixth position.

"I am really excited to return to the Le Mans 24 Hours as racing there last year was one of the highlights of my career," Chandhok stated. "I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had a great race to finish second in the privateers class and sixth overall. I'm really glad to be back in a prototype for the biggest endurance race in the world. While I've enjoyed my first steps into the GT world, racing high downforce cars is what I know and love.

The 2013 European Le Mans season opener will take place in Silverstone on April 13, with Hartley and Patterson behind the wheels of the ORECA-Nissan 03.
