Jeep To Name Crossover Jeepster; Debut In Geneva; India Launch Likely
Jeep's upcoming compact SUV that's been due for some time now will be named Jeepster, according to a dealer who has seen the production version of the vehicle.
The Jeepster name is special because this will not be the first time a Jeep model has borne that nameplate. The original Jeepster was in fact, a legendary open top Willys model. Overland from 1948. The name was also used for later models from 1950, 1966 and 1999.

The rumored new Jeepster will not just share the name of its forefather but will also "call on the heritage" of the World War II era Jeep, according to Australia's Drive, which broke the story.
As for the new Jeepster itself, it will share its underpinnings with the Fiat 500X crossover, a model that will look similar to the new compact Jeep. The new entry level Jeep compact SUV will reportedly be offered in both front and rear wheel drive configurations, with the latter having capabilities of a full fledged off roader.

There's no news about the powertrain options that will be on offer with the new Jeepster, but it's most likely to share them with Fiat 500 and 500L models, which come in a range of petrol and diesel engines, including 1.4-liter MultiAir and the 1.6-liter MultiJet diesel engines.
The new Jeep Jeepster will be revealed at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March, following which it will be launched before the end of 2014. Considering the fact that the Jeepster will be a compact entry level SUV the possibility of it coming to India is very real. Apart from Jeep, Fiat is also rumored to be considering launching selected models from its 500 lineup in India latest by 2015.
