Jaguar E-Type Gets Stretched & Gains A Trailer
Jaguar E-Type Series I roadster from the 1960s is a classic car that's universally considered to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made, if not the most. Recently, when an American owner crashed his 1968 E-Type he decided to get it restored - along with some modifications.
Meet the Jaguar E-Type ‘Kaizen'. The only stretched E-Type Series I in the world, with a trailer to go along with it. The name was given by the car's owner Paul Branstad and it means "understand the imperative to make continuous improvements and then get to work." in Japanese.

The restoration job was handled by Britain's Classic Motor Cars Limited of Bridgnorth (CMC), who said "This is something that we have never done before. Our client wanted the interior legroom of a Series 3 V12 E-Type but the aesthetics of a Series I car." The was hence stretched by 4.5 inches.

Series III E-Types came later and featured elongated bodies, which ruined the way the car looked and handled. The CMC stretched E-Type is still 9 inches shorter than Series III E-Type cars, which means the car still looks as good as a Series I is supposed to look and handles just as well.

Besides the stretched body that improves leg room, the custom E-Type has also been given a raised roofline over the driver's head, a lowered and a redesigned boot floor to hold the 75 litre fuel tank and larger 16 inch spare wheel.

Among the other changes made during restoration include the addition of air conditioning, power steering, upgraded brakes, five-speed gearbox, improved suspension and handling etc,.

Lastly, CMC built a first of its kind trailer for the restored E-Type Series I by combining two E-Type rear ends.

The custom Jaguar E-Type Series I comes powered by powered by a 4.2-litre engine that generates 270 PS of power and 384 Nm of torque.

Paul Branstad said: "As an idea, the Kaizen E-Type was a conceit of the imagination but the car itself has now become a reality by taking advantage of modern material and component technologies provided by CMC."
