Isuzu Launches MU-7 And D-Max In India
Japanese utility vehicle specialist Isuzu has launched two models in India discretely after opening its first showroom in Hyderabad, according to a Hindu Business Line report. Isuzu has launched the D-Max regular cab, D-Max Crew Cab and the MU-7 premium SUV in India.
The D-Max pick-up is priced at INR 6.87 for the regular cab version while the crew cab is priced at INR 8.09 lakhs in India. The MU-7 premium SUV that will compete against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner has been priced at INR 23.75 lakhs. The Isuzu D-Max pick-up is aimed at pick-ups such as the Mahindra Bolero pick-up, Mahindra Genio and Tata Xenon.
Isuzu has opened its first Indian showroom in Hyderabad and is planning to open another showroom in Coimbatore in some time. The company will be selling the D-Max and MU-7 as CBUs imported from its plant in Thailand.
Isuzu is planning to assemble these two vehicles in the near future and and then make India a full fledged manufacturing base. The company's plans were revealed by Deputy Managing Director Shigeru Wakabayashi.
Isuzu is very confident about its prospects in the Indian market. Mr Wakabayashi has stated that the Indian auto market has great growth potential and the situation is similar to the Chinese car market 10 years ago.
Isuzu will be initially selling its vehicles only in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu during what it has termed as its pilot phase in India. This phase will be used to asses the Indian market. Isuzu is also planning to enter the light commercial vehicle segment in some time.
