Hyundai Grand i10 Based Compact Sedan & SUV Plans Confirmed
The compact sedan/sub-4 meter segment, however you want to call it, is thriving in India at present. What started off as an escape strategy from the tax hike has now been realised by Indian automakers as the perfect strategy for the local market. Hence, we now have more new compact sedan models than cars from anyother other segment.
Wait till April 2014 and joining Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Tata Indigo eCS among others, will be a Hyundai i10 Grand based compact sedan. This was confirmed by a senior executive from Hyundai India, HT reports.
Hyundai Grand i10 was launched only recently as a mid range hatchback, placed between the i10 and i20. The Grand i10 based sedan, with its differently styled front fascia, will fill the slot left empty by Accent (discontinued not too long back), as Hyundai's entry level sedan. The new sedan will take its place right below the fluidic Verna.
The Grand i10 based compact sedan will definitely come with petrol and turbodiesel engines, but it remains to be seen whether or not an LPG/CNG variant, like the Accent, will be made available.
What's more is, the executive also confirmed the South Korean automaker is working on a compact SUV, also based on the Grand i10. The small SUV will target Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. In fact, the said SUV has been spotted testing several times in its home country.
The only other category left out is the MPV segment and rumor has it that Hyundai indeed has a Suzuki Ertiga like product on the drawing board. A MPV is most likely to make its appearence in Indonesia before India.
