Honda Freed MPV India Launch Planned To Rival Toyota Innova?
While the battle for leadership in the hatchback, compact sedan and even compact MPV segment rages on, Toyota Innova continues to remain at the helm of its segment, which is by all regards, untouched by competition.
Launched in 2005, Innova continues to flourish in the full size MPV segment where it remains the only model on offer in India. Inevitably, though that will change in the coming years as automakers world over eye the emerging Indian market with interest.

Earlier this month it came to light that India's largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki was planning to grab a slice of the MPV pie in India with the launch of an Innova rival model. Now, the word is that Honda is also looking to take on its fellow Japanese car manufacturer.
According to information provided to ET by people privy to the matter, Honda will bring its globally popular MPV Freed to India. The launch is still sometime back because the same sources also revealed that Honda Freed will not arrive in India before 2016. Honda Freed is reportedly being made ready for launch in ASEAN markets to rival Toyota Innova, according to the sources.
While these sources continued to stress about the intended launch of Freed, Honda Car India spokesperson has denied the same saying there are no plans for such a launch. "However, we are actively looking at the MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) segment", ET was told.
At the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in Delhi starting from the first week of February, Honda will launch Mobilio, an MPV that's based on the Brio platform. However, Mobilio is a 7 seater premium MPV that will go up against Maruti Ertiga and poses little or no threat to Toyota Innova.
Honda and Toyota are both said to be working on the next generation Freed and Innova, respectively and are likely to come out with them around the same period of time.
