Ford Says Start/Stop Feature In 70% Of Its Lineup By 2017
Ford, under its Blueprint for Sustainability initiative, has announced it will introduce Auto Start/Stop technology in 70 percent of its cars by the year 2017 in the United States. This announcement comes just ahead of the launch of the Fiesta hatchback with the 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine in the U.S, which will be the most fuel efficient petrol car in that market.
"By making Auto Start-Stop available on more vehicles, we are working to be part of the solution to environmental sustainability with effective, fuel-saving technologies," said Bob Fascetti, vice president, Ford global powertrain.

Auto Start/Stop can improve fuel economy as much as 10 percent in heavy traffic conditions which makes it an essential part of Ford's Blueprint for Sustainability plan.
Ford does not currently sell any vehicle in India with Auto Start/Stop technology. However, several of its European models come with this feature and Ford believes by the end of the year it would have sold more than 500,000 vehicles equipped with Auto Start-Stop globally.
In India, a few high volume vehicles that come with Start/Stop are Mahindra's Scorpio and XUV500 SUVs. Mahindra calls the feature Micro-Hybrid, but it works in the same manner. Ford India is also likely introduce Start/Stop in the next gen EcoSport.
