Ford Recalls 1,66 Lakh Figo & Classic Units
In what is one of the largest ever recall in Indian automobile history, Ford India has issued a recall of 1,66,000 Figo hatchback and Classic sedan units (previously, Fiesta). What's interesting is, this recall is an extension of the previous recall which involved 1,25,000 cars.
In August 2012 Ford had recalled its Figo and Classic models due to issues with the rear twist beam (part of the rear suspension system) and power steering hose. Being a continuation of the same, the latest recall is also regarding the same issues.
"Ford India is extending its existing voluntary field service action (FSA) and will recall the remaining batches of Ford Figo and Ford Classic models to inspect them for potential issues related to the rear twist beam (RTB) and the power assisted steering (PAS) hose," the automaker said in a statement.

RTB
The problem is specific to the beam, which has the potential to develop cracks. In worst case scenario the beam could break rendering the car undrivable. A total of 109,469 Figo hatchbacks and 22,453 Classic sedans, sold between January 2011 and June 2012, will be inspected for this particular problem.
PAS
30,681 Figo and 3,418 Classic units will be checked for leaks in the hose. All cars will be check and if found, the defective parts will be replaced, free of cost. Ford says no incidents have occurred owing to the faults.

"This is to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers by inspecting and replacing any potentially affected parts as required. Ford India will continue to drive this service initiative through its authorised dealers," the company said.
